Re porting to the Engineering Team Lead, the Graduate Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for undertaking design
and development work for the European FM business. This will include planning and delivery of development projects
and new products.
I ndicative Responsibilities Include:
As a Mechanical Design Engineer, the candidate will be expected to lead both short and medium-term projects
ind ependently, working with customers and stakeholders to identify project scope, plan design and testing and
contribute to development strategy. The projects will typically be mechanical design based to support the
development of trackside and on-board application systems.
The position is wide in scope, to allow involvement in all product lines and project stages. This will involve
co mmunications with the customer, site visits, design, validation, and installation of hardware. Writing reports,
tec hnical documentation and product manuals will also be required.
Pr ojects may require the use of FEA/ hand calculations to validate designs and assumptions. The proficient use of
3D CAD and production of orthographic manufacturing drawings is also essential. It is expected that the candidate
will develop skills and understanding in wheel/ rail interaction including the role of friction management. Support
an d training will be provided.
The successful candidate will be expected to develop as a team player who can interact with, learn from, and
eff ectively draw upon the capabilities and expertise of other team members in a proactive and positive manner.
Working from a Sheffield base, the role is expected to involve some travelling within the UK, mainland Europe and
els ewhere in the world for meetings and as project work dictates. This will involve working in depots/ sidings on
oc casion.
Support will be provided to obtain Incorporated/ Chartered status through the Institute of Mechanical Engineers
or similar institution.
