Job Description 2 x 22.5 hours per week 2 x 30 hours per week To assist the Oral & Maxillofacial Department Managers in creating and maintaining an environment in which members of the department team can contribute to the maximum of their ability in providing a high standard of patient care and to support clinical staff. An Enhanced DBS with barred lisrs for both Adults and Children is required for the post. Interview to be confirmed Assess, plan implement and evaluate nursing care Assist in the management and organisation of a clinical area Work collaboratively with others to meet the needs of patients and families Perform 4 handed Dentistry technique in both Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Involve patients their carers and relatives in the planning and delivery of care Work collaboratively with other professionals and agencies to ensure needs are net in relation to care input and support for ongoing needs Maintain effective communication with patients and carers/relatives Recognise and respond appropriately to urgent and emergency situations Monitor and maintain health, safety and security of self and others ensure own compliance and compliance of others with regards to mandatory training and updating professional requirements, maintaining registration body (GDC). Adhere to trust Policy and Procedures Promoting oral health and preventive dental care in line with Trust and Government guidelines Participate in clinical governance procedures and individual appraisals Adhere to infection control, decontamination, COSHH, Health and Safety standards and all protocols within the workplace Any other duties appropriate to the grade of the post as required by the Unit Manager To supervise the development of clinical teams by creating a learning environment in which the individuals performance is reviewed To supervise the delegation of work within the team and review performance To work with and on behalf of the Unit Manager, managing key operational tasks and aspects of the unit by providing support and advice on all matters To establish excellent working relationships with all service users and actively To encourage and promote joint working in the pursuit of continuous service improvement CLINICAL & PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES To be responsible for ensuring that all equipment and working practices comply with and meet the requirements of the Health & Safety at Work Act and other statutory requirements To be responsible for the supervision of quality standards in all areas of service provision by monitoring and reviewing performance while contributing to the improvement of all quality standards To support the Unit Manager in initiating appropriate actions in response to Datix reports and any resultant action plans are implemented and adhered to Support the Unit Manager to undertake risk assessments to identify potential risks to patients and staff and success of operational objectives, producing action plans as necessary To be responsible that team members are aware of and adhere to all Trust policies and procedures ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES To ensure that the recording of patient care is comprehensive, concise and in line with the GDC Record Keeping guidance Ensure IT systems are current e.g. ADT. Careflow and other Trust IT systems used in the unit TEACHING & TRAINING RESPONSIBILITIES To maintain an effective learning environment for all staff, contributing to the training and assessment of staff when required To act as a role model and competent practitioner, providing support and guidance to junior dental staff To participate in an annual performance review to identify own personal development needs LINE MANAGEMENT/SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES To assist and support the Unit Manager in achieving clinical, operational and corporate objectives, by the supervision of the clinical team To supervise the team in order to support the achievement of the Care Group and Trust objectives through the appraisal process Support the Unit Manager to manage inefficiencies and ineffective utilisation To supervise the implementation and regularly review agreed clinical protocols to ensure patient safety. To actively participate in and ensure the full support of all team members in all clinical audits Participate in the recruitment and induction of staff working in the clinic and ensure Trust policies on recruitment and retention are strictly adhered to Responsible for monitoring and maintaining staff discipline in all areas of service delivery and where necessary escalate to Unit Manager to manage incidents of misconduct in accordance with Trust policies and procedures Support and encourage the integration of staff throughout the clinic and aim to develop a greater breadth of competencies enabling service flexibility for the future FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY Support the Unit Manager to achieve meeting agreed budget targets by monitoring and reviewing the use of all financial resources.
